The European Committee of the Regions will offer to a selection of young politicians, elected at a local or regional level, the opportunity to take an active part in the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels on 7-10 October 2019.
The European Week of Regions and Cities is an annual four-day event during which cities and regions showcase their capacity to create growth and jobs, implement European Union cohesion policy and prove the importance of the local and regional level for good European governance. It brings together around 6 000 participants each year: members of the European Committee of the Regions, members of the European Parliament and national, regional and local politicians; European, national, regional and local government officials and experts in the field of managing and evaluating cohesion policy programmes; representatives of private companies, financial institutions, European and national associations and media.
Specific programme
The young elected politicians who will be selected will be able to network with the other politicians at European, national and local levels present at the event; receive information on EU programmes for cities and regions and actively take part in the discussions taking place. The draft programme specially designed for them can be found here. In addition, their travel will be reimbursed and they will receive a flat-rate subsistence allowance of 269 euros for their stay.
How to apply?
To participate in the young elected politicians' programme, the following requirements will need to be met:
- Applicants need to hold a mandate as an elected politician at regional or local level in a Member State of the European Union
- They must not be older than 40 years as of the first day of the event (7 October 2019)
- They need to complete the form below, registering their interest in taking part by 28 June 2019.
The selection will be based on ensuring the best possible balance of nationality, regional and local representation, political affiliation and gender. The Committee will select and inform the applicants in July 2019.
Young elected politicians who attended the 8th European Summit of Regions and Cities last 14-15 March who meet the criteria are also eligible to apply for this call.
