The conference „Boosting Growth and Cohesion in EU Border Regions“ took place on 20th and 21st of September in at the European Commission.
It consisted of various orators from interested fields as well as several DGs. Main topic was crossing borders, where there was a conclusion that cohesion of borders impact on freedom, citizenship, non-discrimination...etc.
EU Commissioner for Regional Policy, Corina Cretu said „The way foward is to follow-up!“. There were many problems presented, such as; training, qualifing and living in one country and working in another, crossing borders for cooperating when crisis hits, when nearest hospital happens to be over your national border etc.
Orators advocated the single market and freedom of movement, emphasizingthat removing only one fifth of all obstacles could lead to +2% GDP in border regions, one million new jobs, while there are varying national laws and administrative procedures preventing that.
