President of Dubrovnik Neretva Region Nikola Dobroslavić and President of the Prešov Self-Governing Region Peter Chudik signed in Dubrovnik on April 22, 2017 an agreement on co-operation between the two regions.
The initiative for achieving this cooperation came from the Slovak side, and the decision on its establishment was also passed by the Assembly of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County in December last year.
The contacts of these two regions have begun through cooperation within the EU projects and the European Committee of the Regions in Brussels, and there is further cooperation in these fields. The agreement refers to the implementation of international bilateral cooperation in the areas of regional and local government and self-government, regional development, business sector, energy, tourism and marketing, science and education, culture and sport and the social sector.
Also, based on successful cooperation on EU projects soon, a new project is being launched at the level of development agencies of the two regions. Discussions on the possibilities of cooperation within regional festivals and secondary vocational education were also discussed, and experts in culture and education were also present in the delegation in Prague. This was a return visit after the delegation from the Dubrovnik-Neretva County last November stayed in the Prešov region when the details of the cooperation were agreed.
