The European Union from the perspective of cities and regions

The citizens of Dubrovnik Neretva Region met in Dubrovnik with representatives of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), the President of the CoR Markku Markkula, President of the CoR Group of the European People's Party, Michael Schneider, head of the Croatian delegation in the CoR, the President Nikola Dobroslavić, a member of the Croatian delegation in CoR, mayor of Jakovlje Municipality Snježana Bužinec and Deputy Minister of Regional development and EU funds in Croatia Marija Vučković.

The theme of the citizens' dialogue was "Rethinking the EU from the perspective of cities and regions". Answering questions from citizens, they talked about what is happening in the European Union and how to resolve key challenges and realize the benefits.

President Dobroslavić stressed the need to organize such meetings with representatives of the EU institutions and citizens with direct conversation to transmit information, experiences, and listen to the opinions and needs of citizens. These meetings allow an open and interactive exchange of views on the future of the European project, its tangible achievements and challenges based processes for which solutions and implementation should try to find common solutions at all levels.

Talk with citizens gathered young people, students, representatives of non-governmental organizations, representatives of the business sector, and other institutions. The meeting is co-organized by the Dubrovnik Neretva Region and the European Committee of the Regions as part of the EU co-financed CBC IPA Adriatic project 4PILLARS.

Through the County Development Agency over the past three and a half years a number of projects have been realized or initiated for which more than 7 million Euros have been provided by the EU
